Two of the Richmonte Group watch manufacturing companies, IWC and A. Lange & Sohne have recently announced their intention to deliver an app for Apple’s iPhone mobile device in an effort to promote their highly exclusive luxury brands. This move comes hot on the heels of many other companies in the pricey high end watch market that have been teaming up with hi tech sector companies in an effort to associate themselves with the precision and prestige of these break out companies that have such a similar level of dedication to quality as the watch maker companies themselves. Both companies will release their own specific iPhone apps to further their push into new markets by riding on the coats of Apple’s paradigm shifting success with its smart phone.

For IWC, the app will invite users to enter an interactive play area created especially for fans of the giant Swiss brand, allowing them to sift through each and every time piece ever created by IWC. The company believes that by allowing users to examine the watches from any angle, in digitally animated format, they will be able to pique the interest of watch collectors and increase sales. The program will highlight each of the various model’s intricate features, but it will also locate the nearest IWC dealers for the user. The app designed for A. Lange & Sohne instead features their Zeitwerk watch, focusing on that model’s elegance and sought after complications. Fans are even invited to configure their own watch through the app and watch videos showcasing the watch making process.

World famous watch maker Omega, from Switzerland, has unveiled a stunning new time piece, said to be the most over the top it has released in its Constellation series. With more than 30 carats worth of diamonds, cut in the baguette and trapeze styles and then set on both the case and 18k white gold bracelet, this unique piece has been dazzling watch fans eager for a heavy dose of luxury. The watch, titled the Constellation Baguette, features a full selection of four hundred and fifty nine diamonds each delicately matched to suit the ones nearest to it in a hugely time consuming process known as invisible setting. The style of the setting was chosen because it camouflages the pins and joints which hold the gems in place and gives the appearance of a seamless flow of diamonds across the length of the watch. With a mother of pearl dial and so many diamonds that it gives the visual impression of a cosmic supernova, the Omega Constellation’s star symbol is featured to full effect.

Due to the total and complete uniqueness of this watch, Omega will not carry any replacement diamonds or other standard replacement parts. This is because in the event that a replacement to one of the jewels should ever need to take place, the process of repair would take a considerable amount of time due to the need for a certified Gemologist to carefully evaluate each stone in order to find the proper replacement. The color, cut, clarity and size of any replacement would need to be just as perfect as the original item.

IWC Schaffhausen, the world famous brand from Switzerland, has recently announced its intention to partner with the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation to create a special edition time piece that sales will be donated to help charitable causes around the world. The new model, called the Portuguese Automatic, is the forth in a long line of such special edition watches designed to offer amazing quality to watch fans while still creating a much valued source of funding for the charitable groups involved. This time, the new model will utilize stainless steel and sports a dial that incorporates the trademark Laureus shade of blue. The 51011 caliber mechanical movement and full week of power provided by the Pellaton winding mechanism is sure to make this new model a major hit with time piece afficianados around the world. Only one thousand of these units will be made.

The previous special editions from IWC were: The Portuguese Chrono Automatic in 2006, The Pilot’s Watch Chrono Automatic of 2007, and the Da Vinci Chronograph of 2008. Each of these watches have sold impressively to help the charity raise funds, never lasting long on the market. Using the funds, the charity is able to assist impoverished and other wise endangered children around the globe. Last year they assisted nearly three quarters of a million children and young adults suffering from tragedies such as war, poverty, homelessness, fatal diseases, and drug problems. As with previous years, IWC has held a children’s painting contest with the winning art work to be featured on the back of the case of each special edition Portuguese Automatic model.

For generations consumers have known of the major watch brands such as Omega, IWC, TAG Hauer, and Breitling. These major brands have done their part to establish themselves as having strong reputations for quality, but these days the manufacturers are finding that this is not enough. They have begun seeking ways to further improve their edge. Omega has come associated with the Olympic Games and also with the United States space organization, NASA; TAG Hauer has become associated with high speed racing; Ulysse Nardin is known for its ties to the marine world; Breitling for its Bentley time piece. The horizon is clearly about brand association, but more recently the situation has started to grow – to borrow a classic watch term – complicated.

The new wave of watches will be playing upon their fellow industries in the hi tech world. This is expected to change the watches we wear dramatically as new features come to be included that have never before been imagined. New features, called complications, will include audio players to play MP3 music files, WiFi connectivity, Bluetooth interaction and even GPS so that consumers can use their watch to tell not only the time, but their location, as well. Some of these features tie into cars, allowing Aston Martin owners to use their Rapid Transponder watch model to locate their vehicle. Breitling offers a watch equipped with a distress signal to be used by pilots and air crew, already the device has saved twenty lives. The future looks bright indeed for watchmakers and fans alike.

The connections that tie Swiss watch making company Omega together with the Olympic Games stretch as far back as 1932, to be a huge part of the company’s global identity. Since they have been given the opportunity to be the official time keeping devices at the Games, the company has managed to tie its brand very closely with the games themselves through a great many historic memories. It is these exact events tying Omega with the Olympics that have inspired the series of posters titled Great Moments in Time. The posters serve as advertisements for the watch company, and one of them will feature the Vancouver Winter Olympic Games 2010 on it. All of the photos have been described by critics as poignant, timely works of art with a bold, colorful aesthetic.

Among the events depicted in the series is the United States versus the former Soviet Union, an epic on ice battle that lead to a 4 – 3 “miracle” victory in 1980 for the US team, the perceived under dogs at the time. Another shows Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean, the legendary ice dancing team, who won with the gold with a perfect 6.0 in Sarajevo’s 1984 Winter Olympics on Valentine’s Day. The third poster will commemorate the Olympics in Vancouver, featuring a bobsled team. A special edition watch is also being produced, the Omega Seamaster Professional 300m Diver Vancouver 2010 watch. The limited run time piece will be constructed of stainless steel, utilizing a bezel of anodized red metal to signify the watch’s connection with Canada and also, the four colored intertwined rings that symbolize the Olympic Games.
